Not All Summers are Created Equal

Image
We went to an amusement park!  Just Kidding-it's a horse that you can ride for 1 cent at our grocery store-Happy Summer, Three Birds! It's 2:00pm on Day 2 of our Summer Break and I am ready for a drink.  My older girls have classmates who are in England and Russia and Disney World and an all-inclusive resort in Mexico.  I have a friend who has already done 3,429 summer themed crafts with her kids.  They basically Martha Stuart-ed their entire house.  Another friend bought a boat.  Like a good one-with life-jackets and everything.   It's hard not to be jealous of all of this.  Especially since our morning consisted of a visit to the chiropractor and a grocery store run.  My middle child spent a few minutes crying because the wrong Taylor Swift song was playing on the radio.  My oldest can't read ANY of her library books because she didn't realize they were all parts of a series and she (spoiler alert) didn't check out the first o...

This post is about as vulnerable as it gets.  But it’s time to tell you about my experience after having our second child, Andalucia.  We were living in Maryland and I had opted for a repeat c-section because the first kid couldn’t fit through my pelvic bones (I have a very dainty bone structure) so the second kid probably wasn’t going to either.  The delivery went well, the hospital stay was fine, and I went home with a beautiful baby and a good disposition.   Ten days after giving birth my disposition had changed drastically.  I found myself worrying about the baby all the time.  Now, some worry is normal but what I had was frantic and irrational .  I also had started to have a lot of pain coming from my ass .  Hemorrhoids that were lighting my butt on fire.  Everything came to a head when one night Joe started to share his worries about me.  He may have used a phrase similar to “you are acting crazy.”  So, I did the obv...

A Sunday Poem

Image
I follow the God of love and joy; I know the God of peace and justice. I worship the God of creation, beauty, mercy. I surrender to the One who made the sun and moon; mountains and deserts. He knows the hairs on my head...and yours...and his...and hers.   How wondrous all that there is to learn and be and see and do...and how tumultuous these days of learning and being and seeing and doing. He chooses us all.  All.   He made us all and saved us all.  All. All that remains is our response.   How do we choose and make and save?  Others.  Our neighbor.  Our enemy.   Not all of the questions have answers.   I will say it again: Not all questions have answers.   The only right answer is love.  Every. Time.
